Benefit Show for Hurricane Ondoy
On November 13th, Alpha Psi Rho and Andres Bonifacio Samahan of San Diego State University through a Benefit show for the victims of Hurricane Ondoy. Hurricane Ondoy was a Hurricane that hit the North part of the Philippines. Ondoy dumped a total of 455 millimeters of rain in Quezon City alone in 24 hours, compared to the 250 millimeters of rain that Hurricane Katrina brought to New Orleans in Louisiana in the United States.
The show did not have an admission cost but people that went could choose to donate. Some of the brhothers working that night was Scott Chen, Kim Impreso, Justin Villanueva, Justin Calica, and David Tong.Overall the concert was successful raising around $500.The gentlemen of Alpha Psi Rho would like to thank the many people that donated for this cause.Marching for the Lolo’s
On July 26, 1941, Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a military order conscriptingthe Philippine Commonwealth Army and Old Philippine Scouts under the U.S. Armed Forces. Along with this order came the promise of full benefits as veterans of the US military. However, in 1946, the US Congress passed the Recission Act which reversed this promise stripping these soldiers of all the benefits promised. While the House of Representatives has passed the “Filipino Veterans Equity Act of 2008,” which would make one-time payments of $15,000 to Filipinos who are U.S. citizens and $9,000 to non-citizen Filipino veteran, the Senate has not acted on the legislation passed by the House. Out of every single country allied with the US during WWII, the Philippines is the sole nation that has not received benefits for their veterans. This past Wednesday, November 11, 2008, hundreds marched including the gentlemen of Alpha Psi Rho in solidarity to recognize and support the struggle to give the remaining 18,000 out of over 200,000 veterans the rights and honor they deserve in defense of freedom.
This One Was for you JP
Although it was a very hard season for the football team, Football Captain Jon Dalupan managed to get Alpha Psi Rhos first Football Championship. The finishing score was 12-6.
This was the very first football championship won by Alpha Psi Rho and the game was dedicated to Jeremy Pallon. We have you and your family in our hearts brother. Rest in Paradise.
Thank you everybody for your support and come watch us this upcoming Spring defending our title as the Spring 08 Basketbal Champs.
